A Day I’ll Never Forget: Celebrating Small Business, Community, and the Journey So Far

Last week was one of those moments that stop you in your tracks. The kind where you take a breath, look back at how far you have come, and feel an overwhelming mix of gratitude and pride.

It started when my incredible business coach nominated me, along with other small business owners, to represent NSW businesses through the Business Connect scheme. For those unfamiliar, Business Connect has been an invaluable support network for small business owners across the state, helping us build, grow, and stay resilient through every season.

For me, it has been a cornerstone in the growth of both RS Speech Pathology and Wine with Wita. From strategic guidance to practical advice, the program has not only helped shape my business but also the way I connect with families, caregivers, and the broader community.

When I received the call that The Daily Telegraph wanted to feature my story as part of an article about Business Connect and its exclusion from the NSW government budget, I was both honoured and heartbroken. Honoured to share what this program has done for me, and heartbroken that so many small businesses may lose access to such vital support.

The story did not end there. A few days later, I was invited by Channel 10 for an interview, which presented an incredible opportunity to discuss my journey and the importance of small businesses in shaping thriving, connected communities. Sitting in that interview space, sharing my story, I couldn't help but think of the countless late nights, client sessions, and moments of uncertainty that had led me to this point.

It was more than just an interview. It was a reminder that RS Speech Pathology is more than a clinic. It is a space built on connection, between families and therapists, between professionals and communities, between courage and possibility. And Wine with Wita has become an extension of that mission. It is a platform where stories are shared, awareness is raised, and families feel seen and supported.

The day was filled with gratitude and emotion. It was a celebration of how far we have come and of the incredible community that continues to stand by our side.

From my coach, Court Sayer‑Roberts, who believed in me, to the Business Connect mentors who offered guidance, to every family and listener who has supported our work, I am endlessly thankful.

As small business owners, we often wear many hats, take many risks, and carry deep responsibility for the people we serve. Programs like Business Connect do not just help us build stronger businesses; they help us build stronger communities. And I will continue to advocate for that.

Here is to growth, to community, and to giving small businesses the voice they deserve.
